Reversi with Narrative
So I while I was trying to gather ideas for my game dev portfolio, I was reminded of one of my favorite childhood game Reversi (I know it as Othello, but it is trademarked. So I will use Reversi for safety). I play it a lot when mobile games was not a thing. I was also my early experience of game designs, as I try analyzing the gameplay. Long story short, I decided it would be a good practice on gameplay and AI programming to do this passion project.
The narrative was out of necessity; I thought Reversi and Othello are both trademarked. I found out later that only the later is. Still the narrative got is dynamic and who am I to stop it. It started with a simple ‘good and evil’ stuff. But it’s kinda boring, right? So, I lean toward more grey area of opposite entities that do not convey rigid good and bad vibes like ‘day and night’. First, I thought of Greek mythology of Nox and Helios. But later I thought why not use local myth (SEA/Thai mythology which is heavily influenced by Indian mythology). So I found Chandra and Rahu are good candidate; they had conflict, and neither of them is absolutely ‘good’ or ‘evil’ (at least in my opinion).
I guess Othello game was named with the same idea with Shakespeare reference.
This vision is still in development.
This first published is just the Reversi mechanic of the game.
